My 1st Quilt EVER - fabric and cutting

So this is the quilt progress so far. I cut some fat quarters up. hopefully kind of straight -ishinto 6x6 squares. mostly. 84 of these squares actually. Which I then sewed into "pairs" and then added a 3rd square to make it a row. - 27 rows.

Then I laid the rows into "blocks" to kind of envision the quilt and make sure no 2 same fabrics touched.

My next step was to iron the seams in opposite directions. Let me tell you how much that doesn't make sense to me. But I ironed.

Now I get to sew the rows into blocks. And then cut them up again. Then sew them together again.

I think.

I try not to read too far ahead on the Tutorial I'm using because then I get intimidated.

I'm not sure why I decided this was going to be fun.
It is fun using my super awesome Brother SE-400 that Brother let me borrow. woot woot.

Love the colors! and Bless your heart! I can sew small projects - pillows, curtains, stuffed animal laceration repairs - a quilt? Nope. My mom says sewing relaxes her. It pisses me off. Add to the fact that I pretty much suck at it, well, there you have it. Have FUN!

That sewing machine is awesome! I had one years ago and I have no idea what the heck happened to it.

So far so good on the quilt! It's going to look great. I had no idea that seams had opposite directions...wtf?

I love quilts, but making one scares me. I'll stick to my crochet!

I love the fabric! I can't wait to see the finished product. Good luck!

I want to make one but I'm scared.
That one is going to be adorable that you are making!
I think Brother should let you keep the machine.

Wow, you've done heaps already. Looks too tedious for me - I'm not good with hard work :)

Ohhhh, can't wait to see! I remember my mom making quilts, there would be mini triangles of fabric everywhere. And she'd be in a bad mood, because I guess the making of the quilt was not as much fun as having the finished quilt.

Great start! You can hang the squares on the wall to see how they will look together. I guess G wasn't around when you had them set out or they would have been all over the place if he is anything like Ethan. Anytime I put cloth on the floor Ethan wants to roll in it!

that looks like it is ging to be a lovely quilt. I made my first one recently but can't blog about it yet. I have to make a 2nd one as they are for twins and its their birthday present in January. it is a raggy quilt which is easy to make.
