12 years.

The years go so fast. It feels like I JUST wrote this post about being married 10 years.

12 years ago - Chris and I ran off to Eureka Springs and eloped. And I wasn't pregnant. But he was on leave from the Air Force. And there was NO WAY we could be together if we weren't married.

We were 18 & 19 years old. and dumb. and in love.

12 years later. We've built this life and this family and this world. And it was hard. and happy.

Chris and I were discussing someone getting a divorce. And he said sometimes it sucks for 2 or 3 months. And you get caught up in that. And you trick yourself into thinking that it has sucked forever. But it will get better and it does get better.

We know. We have been to marriage counseling 3 different times. We are not perfect. And our marriage is not perfect.

But we have support and respect and love for each other. And for Grayson.

We have a different love than we did at 18. and a different love than we did at 25. and a different love today.

But it's there.

Making a marriage work is The. Hardest. Thing. Ever. But it's also the most rewarding thing you'll ever do. It's about love, respect, friendship and compromise.

Hugs and merry wishes for Christmas and the new year!

Happy Anniversary! You said it wonderfully. Marriage certainly isn't a fair tale, but it's worth working at.

I have been married 17 years. And let me say we have had our share of rough times. But yes, the love changes and it grows and sometimes it is buried underneat a lot of other crap. You have to water it and it will grow...just like a flower!

Happy Anniversary to you guys! And he's right, it does suck for a Season...but then something happens to ignite that spark again and you remember why you love each other in the first place. We've almost hit the five year mark, and it amazes me how much we've matured in these last five years. Marriage is a funny thing no doubt :)

Happy Anniversary, and wishing you many, many more!

Happy Anniversary! Been married 31 years and got news for you, it doesn't get easier, but if you got the love and the willingness to work together and stay together through thick and thin, that is indeed a blessing! Wishing you many more years together! Merry Christmas too!

Your post brought tears to my eyes. It is so true that marriage has its ups and downs and riding through the down times together can lead to a new kind of love and respect for each other. I just pray that my husband will realize this. I printed off the poem I wrote and gave it to him with his Christmas present, but it doesn't even look like he's read it.

Congratulations to you and your husband for your commitment to each other and your family.
