The Binky Fairy

My domain name is expired and I have to pay $10 to keep it. I should do that.

G still had a pacifier as of last Friday. He's too old. And I'm an enabler.

But the dentist said "Does he suck his thumb? He has an open bite"

And I said "Nope. " The end. I didn't mention his binky at all because I'm embarrassed that my 3 year old still had one.

I wouldn't let him have it in public. Car and home only.

But I had let it go on too long.

So we talked to Grayson about how the dentist said no more binkies. (she didn't) And we talked about the binky fairy. That if we sent the binkies to the binky fairy - she would send back a present.

He was excited about getting a present. In theory.

We went and I let him pick out a dozen balloons.

G, Chris, and I went to the park and tied all the binkies we could find to the balloons. And kept talking about them going to the binky fairy.

G let them go. And went and played.

I cried.

He has done great without it ever since. He does ask for it a few times throughout the day, but no fits and no tears.

He received Iron Man, Captain America, and a few comic books from the binky fairy.

The balloon idea was as much for me as for G. I knew that if he threw a big enough fit and I still had access to them that I would cave.

That's fantastic! Sad, but great.

I cried when Munch had to give up his binkies too. It was almost like offically waving babyhood goodbye. :o/
Good for G though!! Sounds like he took it like a champ!

How great! Love that idea. Elizabeth would run off with her sisters pacie when we took hers away. I would find them hidden under her bed. But she stopped after awhile and a lot of talking about how Evie needed them. Lol

Such a sweet idea re: the binky fairy! I love the balloon let-go :)

Also, you have no idea how happy I was to see you pop back up in my reader after a month of radio silence! I've missed you!

What a wonderful idea! We just snipped a hole in Ethan's. It's amazing how much harder things can be on us than on them!

Nice to read your words again. ;)

For Bruiser I ended up cutting the end off of his favorite and he didn't want to suck on it any more, but wanted to have it near. That lasted about two days and he was over it. Easier than I though it would be.
The balloon idea is a cool one.

Good idea! And good for you- my brothers both had to go through dental surgery to correct jaw issues from development like that, and the pain and expense was horrendous. Better to let the binky habit go now. :D

Great job..I broke TC off his by cutting the end of it off. Worked in 2 days!

That's a pretty cool way to get rid of the binky though...that's awesome! Glad he's doing well without it. Bree wouldn't take a binky...I tried to give them to her, she just spit them out. She always had to have a bottle though, or something to drink in her hand at all times. She's still that way.

That balloon idea is adorable. My kid is 2.5 and loves his pacis, and I know it's about time we got rid of them. I'm just dreading it, and yeah, it makes me sad to think we're saying goodbye to another part of his babyhood. This post might be the nudge I need to get rid of the pacis!

that is a great idea. I think Tim was 2.5 when we got rid of his, I don't remember what we did, but I think we just took them away.

I never paid for one. I do know someone I follow who lost their name so yes you should pay for it now. I miss you and was so glad to see a post today!!!!

What a big moment. I would have cried too. What a great way to say good-bye to them. Glad he is doing so well without it.

Tying them to balloons is genius! I wish I had though of that!

Well done! Alana left hers for the Easter Bunny. The next night it was the saddest thing ever when she asked for it and I said "Remember, the Easter Bunny took it" and her little face fell and then she screwed up her courage and said "Oh. I remember." saddest thing ever but she was so brave. Josh left his for Santa and I don't remember anything about it :( Anyway, well done to you and G both!

Cute idea! The binky was a tough one. I always found excuses to let her keep it.

We did the "faffy" fairy - who took our daughters Faffies and took them to the babies that didn't have them. She gathered them all up, put them next to her in bed one night, and woke up the next morning to no faffies and a brand new barbie. We soon discovered that our 3-year-old was smarter than us when she successively found 6 more faffies under couches, beds, etc. The faffy fairy came a total of 4 times. :/
